OKEECHOBEE, FL – Gethsemane Ranch has just awarded another round of cowpokes for completing a faith-based camp on the art of rodeo and worship.

The Ranch is directed by Jesse and Karen Jones under the headship of Dunklin Memorial Camp, a Christian training center dedicated to the spiritual regeneration of alcoholics and drug addicts. At Gethsemane, children are taught to rope calves, ride bulls, barrel racing and pole pending, all while learning Christian values and morals.

Rodeo Bible Camps are currently being held three times a year. The first is in the spring, then summer, followed by the Christmas camp.
Children from all walks of life begin arriving on Sunday afternoon, staying until Friday evening. Each new day begins with an early breakfast, learning a variety of rodeo events, lunch, then time to worship.

“The thing that amazes me the most is we think children will only pay attention to prayer for about 15 minutes, yet we have found they will pray for hours,” says Jesse. As Friday approaches, the children usually want to stay another week.

The Buckle Series takes place the last Saturday of each month at 3 p.m. just south of the Dunklin Church off Martin County Grade. Weekly events include practice for bull riding, barrel racing, and team roping.

The long range goal for the not-for-profit ranch is to build a two-story bunkhouse approximately 2,400 square feet to house the campers.

For more information call the Jones’ at 772-597-0380 or 772-260-9902.
