Upcoming events at J2 Quarter Horse Arena

QUITMAN, GA — Buddy and Serena Johnson of J2 Quarter Horse Arena have announced their lineup of events at the ranch. Check the website often for new posting at www.calfhorse.com. The ranch is located at 125 Roberts Road in Quitman, GA 31643. For information call 229-263-8815.

1) $3,000 Jackpot Obstacle Course, Feb. 14, 10 a.m. The Extreme Obstacle Course Jackpot will be a a timed and judged competition through an obstacle course that is designed not only to push equine and rider teams out of their traditional “comfort zones,” but also to test communication between animal and rider and the horse/mule/donkeymanship skills and athletic abilities of each competitor. Spectators will find the competition exciting and entertaining to watch while contenders address its challenges in a race for prizes, and the title of “Extreme Obstacle Course Champion”. There will be a total of 12 Obstacles in the Extreme Obstacle Course Jackpot. The course is likely to include obstacles and activities such as: saddling the equine, dragging and jumping, water obstacles, loading into a trailer, backing up through a pattern, trenches, tunnels, navigating a log jumble, working gates, Texas 3 step, calf roping, etc. A J2 Fun Run will be open to riders not riding in the Jackpot and is meant to be an amateur/beginner class. We will have a concession stand and bounce house at this event for the kids. Register forms available online.

2) Ranch/Team Sorting Jackpot, March 21, 10 a.m.
Jackpot will be a 50/50 payout. Pre-register now or a late fee may apply. Ranch/Team Sorting is a working cow horse sport in a friendly, yet competitive, environment. Sorting, similar to team penning, is an entertaining spectator sport. Each heat promises to be filled with excitement and good humor. Sorting is good training and exercise for a horse. This popular sport will improve a horse’s performance, cow sense and overall well-being. Visit the website for entry forms, rules and more information at our website.

3) Battle of the Barns, April 18. This event is open to all barns or riding groups. A group is considered to have at least five riders. Listed are a few of the events:
• Musical Feed Bags - all riders
• Texas Key Hole - 3 riders per barn
• Boot Race - all riders
• Calf Scramble - all riders
• Goat Tying - 3 riders per barn
• Ride a Buck - all riders
• Toilet Paper Carry - 2 teams of 2 per barn
• Egg Relay - 5 riders per Barn
$20 per rider entry fee. The top barn will receive a large trophy, bragging rights, and cash payout. Top 6 in each event will receive a ribbon. Entries must be received by April 1. Forms are available on the website.
