20,000 trees sold in online auction

SARASOTA, FL — Deluxe Trees and Shrubs, Arcadia, FL, chose Atkinson Realty & Auction to liquidate their overstock of 20,000 palm and other varieties of trees in an online auction last month. Heavy marketing brought buyers from all over the state and the Southeast who logged on and bid from their desktops on over 670 lots.

Items were grouped in lots of five to 60 trees each. Sizes ranged from one gallon to 45 gallon containers and many trees were more than 10 feet tall. Photos were taken of each lot and could be viewed while bidding. An onsite inspection took place one week before bidding ended.

Buyers and sellers both win in the auction process. Sellers can liquidate items quickly at fair market value. Pricing goes up progressively rather than starting high and dropping as with clearance items. Buyers pay the price that they choose, not a price that is artificially set by someone else.

Another advantage to the auction system is the quick removal of items. Depending on the size of the auction, a seller can have his entire inventory removed in a few days rather than weeks or months of trying to sell in the typical retail or wholesale environment.

2,665 Hardee County citrus acres sold

SEBRING, FL — On Dec. 5, Heartland Real Estate Corporation (HREC) closed a deal of 2,665 acres of Hardee County citrus groves, which were purchased by a Delaware-based limited liability company. The grove will be leased back to the seller for five years.

“We are thrilled to complete this win-win deal for both companies,” said HREC owner/broker James M. Wohl. “Our agents pride themselves on listening to their clients’ needs and connecting the best buyers with the right properties.”

HREC real estate agent Martin M. Wohl represented the seller. The acreage sold for approximately $34.3 million.
